The Liburnians were an Illyrian people who firstly held Corfu before the Greeks colonised it.[1]

This Liburnian sample from Osor, seems to be plotting closer to the Illyrians than other populations, also having a mtDNA common among the Illyrians of Dalmatia. Senza-titolo-206_20241026001159.png

Two archaeogenetic studies published in Nature and Science (2022) examined 5 samples from four MBA-IA Liburnian tumuli at Velim-Kosa near Zadar. Three out of four men belonged to the Y-DNA haplogroup patrilineal line J2b2a1-L283 (> J-PH1602) with the exception of one R1b-L2. The mtDNA haplogroups fell under 2x H7, H13a2a, HV0e and T2b23.[2][3] Samples from the Late Bronze Age of the Bezdanjača cave in the Lika region yielded Y-DNA R-L2.[4] All these lineages are related to the Illyrians.
