The native Albanians of Dardania

"Albanians are descended from the Illyrians. This preliminary remark is important, because Kosovo is a small territory with a large population and even more history. From 1989, in connection with the violent removal of Kosovo's autonomy, Serbian nationalism denied the true origin of the Albanians. Kosovo is defined as the Serbian Jerusalem, because the Albanians are accused of appearing in Kosovo only after the battle of the "Black Bird Field"/*Kosovo Field in 1389. In this way, they would have stolen the land ancient Serbian; some figures and historians of Serbian literature describe the Albanians as a primitive mountain people. All this plays a daily political role in the region, so it is important to highlight some facts. Historiography has known for some time the conflict between the Greek polis and the empire of the Illyrians. Around the year 450 before our time, archaeological research proves the emergence of Illyrian cities and Illyrian culture in the territory of today's Albania and Kosovo, traces of Illyrian life can be traced throughout the Balkans, up to Tyrol. Linguists pointed out the Illyrian origin of many present-day names of villages in the mountain valleys of Tyrol."

"The Illyrians assimilated in those areas where they did not have their own base of state power, such as today's Bosnia, Croatia, Slovenia, etc. However, the Dardanians as part of the Illyrians already had a strong state power in the Hellenic era with Kosovo as the center. […] Many churches in Kosovo, although often converted to Orthodox churches, remained Catholic churches, Albanian churches, until the XI and XII centuries. This refutes the historical theory that the Albanians came to Kosovo only after the battle of the "Field of Black Birds"/*Fushë Kosova in 1389."
