Alexander the Great had confirmed Illyrian ancestry through his paternal grandmother, Eurydice I of Macedon, the mother of Philip II. Even if the Macedonians could be considered "Ancient Greek," Alexander still possessed Illyrian heritage, and since modern Albanians are descended from the Illyrians, they have a stronger claim to Alexander than modern Greeks, who do not descend from the Ancient Greeks.

Here are some sources, while also trying to respect the Academic standards for the reliability of those sources, indicating that Alexander the Great had Ililyrian ancestry, and that Eurydice herself was of Illyrian origin.
