The Ottomans conducted a census in 1455, which recorded that approximately 96% of the population in the region was of Slavic origin. While it might be tempting to equate this majority with being automatically "Serbian".

According to "The Wars of the Balkan Peninsula" by Alexandru Madgearu on pages 125-126, all Albanians that came under Serbian rule were forced to Serbianise their names and convert to Serbian orthodoxy.

This is an ethnographical map made by Kiepert during 1876, proving the Albanian majority in Kosovo during those years

Old Turkish-Ottoman statistics of the year 1908-1909 (re-made in Albanian) where the Albanians cases were much larger than all others in the main Albanian cities. With this, the theory of the Serbs who claim to be the majority in Kosovo falls into the pit In fact they were a small minority.

in this book we can see that the majority of Kosovo during the Serbian Empire was Albanian.

Another argument usen really frequently by Serbs is that Albanians destroyed Orthodox Churches in Kosovo, but well, the Orthodox Churches were destroyed after 1/3rd of Mosques (225) and Catholic Churches were absolutely levelled in Kosovo by Serbs, and after the Serb clerics in Orthodox Churches had encouraged violence unseen in eons against civilians, such as ‘blessing’ soldiers before they committed massacres.

Although was ruled more by Bulgarians than the Serbs.

However we all know that Kosovo was firstly inhabitated by an illyrian people called "Dardanians" which are the Ancestors of modern day Albanians, but the question is, how do we know that? Well, according to recent genetic studies, it's proven that the Albanians come from Roman period Western Balkan populations such as Illyrians.

Although most of the Albanians belong to E-V13, J2b2, and R1b-M269 haplogroups, all haplogroups that where found at ancient sites in Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Serbia IA/BA so far.

So we see that the Serbs typically have more Slavic paternal DNA than Palaeo-Balkanic ones, however some Serbs might use as argument that the haplogroup I2a was Palaeo-Balkanic, but well no, the i2a which was found in the Balkans during antiquity is i2a-L701 or either i2a-L161, clades that have nothing to do with the Southern Slavic I2a haplogroup which is I-Y3120 (main clade, I2-L621).

According to the study by Olalde in 2023, "A Genetic History of the Balkans from Roman Frontier to Slavic Migrations" I2-L621, appears in the Balkans only after 600 AD

Let's get back to the argument about Kosovo.

However, Serbs proclaim that the Albanians of Kosovo discriminate them, but...

Also we can see that the Albanians mostly belong to E-V13 according to the Albanian DNA Project Rrenjet

Conclusion:

  1. Kosovo was not even a Serbian majority during the Serbian Empire and was more often ruled by Bulgarians than by Serbs.

  2. I2a-Y3120 (Southern Slavic clade) is not Palaeo-Balkanic.

  3. Most of the Albanians from Kosovo descend from the Local Balkanic population that have inhabitated those places during antiquity extending even to Nish.
