Do Greeks really descend from the Ancient Greeks? Debunking study
Arberian 10/05/2024This outdated study from 2017 talked about how much the Mycenaeans were genetically distant from modern Greeks as well as Bulgarians and Albanians; it's just that they represented it inaccurately.
This is the actual Study and it says that modern Greeks resemble the Mycenaeans but with some additional dilution.
Well, we know this additional dilution is over 80%+ since most of the haplogroups that were found in Ancient Greece aren't found in modern Greece.
Using qpAdm, we can accurately assess admixture among Greeks, revealing significant Slavic admixture in the North and extremely high Levantine & Anatolian admixture among the Islanders.
Admixture among Greeks from the Mainland:
Admixture among Cretans
Here's also the Haplogroups of some Greeks from the North according to Greek FTDNA Project
And here's an average of Greek Y-DNA from all places, from Y-Full's Tree. We find out I2-Y3120 is the most prevalent Haplogroup among all Greeks
We can clearly see big difference inconfront to Ancient Greeks, while no ancient Greek lineage is found among modern Greeks.
Now let's take a look at this PCA made using Vahaduo with the official G25 coordinates from Eurogenes, the modern Greeks don't stick with the Ancient Greeks, but instead, stick with the Albanians and Anatolians
Such haplogroups as E-V13, J-L283, R-Z2103, I-Y3120 and R1a-M417 are found in modern Greece mostly because of a big Albanian and Slavic presence in the Medieval era.
The documentation of Albanian settlement in Greece corresponds to Y-DNA research as there are numerous modern Greek patrilineages which are medieval descendants of major Albanian patrilineages.
There's also some Greeks desended from the Lineage of the noble Albanian family Bua which was located in the Despotate of Arta and some parts of Morea during the Medieval era
Albanians constituted a major population of the Peloponnese. Byzantine Greek writer Maximos Mazaris who was a firsthand witness of the Albanian settlement notes them as one of the major ethnic groups of the region in the early 15th century.
